Heparin Sodium

Heparin sodium is an active ingredient from the heparin group (polysaccharides) with antithrombotic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and absorption-enhancing properties. The substance is derived from animal tissue, such as the intestinal porcine or bovine mucosa, and acts by inhibiting blood coagulation. It is used both for the prevention and treatment of thrombosis and embolism (including early treatment of myocardial infarction), as well as for anticoagulation during surgeries or hemodialysis.
When applied topically in pharmaceutical creams or gels, it can relieve symptoms associated with varicose veins, sports injuries, bruises, or scars. In laboratory settings, blood containers such as capillaries or ampoules are coated with heparin sodium or other heparin salts to prevent blood clotting in samples.
