Urokinase is an enzyme from the peptidase group, isolated from human urine. As a thrombolytic agent, urokinase is administered intravenously for the treatment of heart attacks, pulmonary embolism, and thrombotic vascular occlusions. In this process, plasmin targets fibrin in blood clots and dissolves them.
Urokinase can also be used as a component in catheter lock solutions or more generally for laboratory purposes and analytical applications.
